I've been a resident agent for nearly seventeen years. Back when I practiced law in a large firm, like so many lawyers, I wanted to serve as my clients' agent to maintain the relationship with my client and to know about their litigation.

This did not work well as my practice grew. I had to keep track of all of my clients and their updated contact information, and it was a vicious game of hot potato whenever I was served and had to ask my assistant to drop everything to get papers out the door ASAP.

About 10 years ago, I formed eResidentAgent, Inc. to fix all that - I developed a constantly updated database of client contact information, I committed to confirm contact information annually, and developed systems so that when I was served the papers were instantly sent to all those who needed them by mail, overnight, and email (PDF).
